SUMNER ACADEMY EARNS THIRD STRAIGHT WINNING SEASON
The Sumner Academy Hawks soccer team finished the 2016 season with a 5-2-1 record, earning them a second place finish in the division and fourth place overall showing in the tournament. Led by Jackson Cook (10 Goals) and Maxwell Grutter (9 Goals), the Hawks earned their third straight winning season. " I am extremely proud of the way this team played this year" said Head Coach Scott Morris. “To have three straight winning seasons, after not winning a game four years ago, is quite an accomplishment!" What has been the secret to their success these last three years? "Consistency. I have had six players who have been a part of this team since the 2013 season and each year they strived to be better and make this team better." And it showed again this year. With a mixture of young and veteran players the team started 5-0-1 and made it to the semi-finals where they lost a heartbreaker 3-2 coming close to tying the game up in the final minute. "They played with so much heart and determination in that game, it was unfortunate that we came up on the wrong end of the score” said Morris. "However one game cannot take away what this team accomplished this year, and as a coach I could not ask for a better group of student-athletes!"
