In light of recent recommendations from the CDC and Governor Lee, the Admin Team, with the full support of the Board of Trustees, met Monday morning to confirm and further develop the distance learning plan we notified you of prior to spring break. After careful consideration, Sumner Academy will enact the following plan:
Spring break will be extended through March 27, 2020. During this time, there will be no schoolwork for students to complete. Faculty and staff will use this week to develop lessons and complete the setup and scheduling of distance learning classrooms.
Beginning March 30 through April 3, 2020, classes will be held through Google Classroom for our distance learning program. Following a professional development day on March 23, we will notify families of defined class schedules and further details.
By April 2, we will reevaluate the current government and health providers' recommendations for possible closures or restrictions to determine if classes will resume on campus or if distance learning will continue for an additional two weeks. This process will continue until recommendations indicate that we may resume classes on campus as normal.
All local and overnight field studies, as well as spring sports, will be postponed or canceled (ex. San Antonio, Oak Ridge, Volunteer Day, Fun Run, etc.). Families of students involved in these extracurricular activities will have details shared with them in the coming weeks.
Students in grades 5-8 need to pick up their laptops (iPads) and books from school on Tuesday, March 24 from 11 am. - 1 pm.
Any lower school student who left any necessary materials at school needs to pick it up from school on Tuesday, March 24, from 1 pm. - 3 pm.
Families that have children in multiple grades, please come at the time of your youngest child's grade.

If you have traveled out of the state via airplane, contact Hannah Martin by email at firstname.lastname@example.org in order to schedule a time to pick up your child's materials.
If you or anyone that you have had direct contact with tests positive for COVID-19, even during the next two weeks and beyond, notify the school immediately.
