Traditionally, Sumner Academy is the first school back in session in the area after a summer break. This is due to its nine weeks on and two weeks off schedule. For the 2016-2017 school year, Sumner Academy welcomed thirty-five new students and five new faculty members. The school has an especially large group of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students this year. Small class sizes are a hallmark of a Sumner Academy education. Class sizes are eight to twelve in the early childhood grades and rarely over sixteen in other grades. This allows our faculty to employ what Headmaster Steve Jackson has termed a “prescriptive education.” Each faculty member has the ability every day to work with each child individually on exactly what that child needs to grow academically, emotionally, physically, and socially. Sumner Academy’s mission is to discover and cultivate each child’s unique abilities. The school has open enrollment and has a few openings for the remainder of the school year.
