After a six-year absence during which her husband was working in the Knoxville area, Connie rejoined the Sumner Academy staff in 1997. Connie teaches 6th - 8th grade Science, 7th and 8th grade Health and 7th grade Social Studies. Connie has two children, Nathan and Gala, both Sumner Academy graduates. Nathan is a graduate of UT with a Ph.D. in microbiology and works in Durham, NC. Gala is a graduate of Agnes Scott and American University in Washington, D.C. and is working in Art Management at the Museum of Women in the Arts. Connie currently sponsors the Environmental Club and Book Club. and the Junior Honor Society. She also serves as the Lower Middle School Coordinator. Connie has been involved with the Girl Scouts as a Cadette Scout Leader and is a United Way volunteer. She holds a B.S. from Georgia State and a M. Ed. from Vanderbilt University. Connie enjoys reading, traveling, history and gardening. Connie received the Sumner Academy Teacher's Award in 1991. An interesting fact about Connie is that her family is a First Family of Tennessee. Her grandfather's family came to Tennessee with a Revolutionary War Land Grant. Connie also loves to learn and try new things!
