Technology

Sumner Academy has a fully networked campus with DSL Internet, LAN and Wi-Fi access in every classroom. We have computers in every classroom as well as a computer lab, and two laptop carts available for full class use. All students attend class in the school's computer lab for computer instruction. We believe that technology should enhance and expand the learning process.

Campus technology includes:

• Scanners, digital cameras, SmartBoards, LCD TVs, and video cameras for faculty and student use
• Ceiling-mounted projectors, probes, graphing calculators and microscopes
• Library with catalog access all over campus as well as from home
• A school wide wireless network
• A long-range strategic plan for our technology goals

In the computer lab we use as age appropriate, hands-on technology program to develop the student's technology skills. From Pre-Kindergarten through the eighth grade, the students use a project-based approach to learning technology. Students develop a real sense of when and how to use technology for efficiency and effectiveness rather than using technology just for technology's sake. Each project in the computer lab program is easily adapted to meet the needs of our students. Everyone in the class learns the same skills, but each project can be expanded or modified to make it challenging for different skill levels or interests.
